Gutter Construction: Seamless vs. Sectional
By ProMatcher Staff
Seamless Gutters vs. Sectional Gutters Are seamless gutters worth the additional cost?
Seamless Gutters
The Good:
- More reliable than sectional gutters
- Only have joints at corners and downspouts
- Custom fit to your specific house
- Low maintenance
The Bad:
- Need experienced, qualified installer
- More expensive
The Bottom Line:
Seamless gutters (or continuous gutters) are typically custom-made to fit your specific house. When professionally installed, these gutters are generally made on-site to custom lengths with a truck-mounted machine. Due to the minimal amount of joints, the gutters are more reliable and leaks are less frequent. However, it may be more difficult to find a qualified installer. Additionally, seamless gutters are more expensive to install than sectional gutters.

Sectional Gutters
The Good:
- Very affordable
- Easy to install
- DIY kits can be purchased
The Bad:
- Leak-prone
- Leaks can lead to serious water damage
- May not be able to accommodate heavy snow
- Require more maintenance than seamless gutters
The Bottom Line:
Sectional gutters are pieced together with prefabricated pieces. They typically come in kits with a number of different components. While some pieces need to be sealed together, many pieces interlock or snap into place. Due to the number of joints, the gutter system is more likely to leak. If the leak goes undetected, water can seep into your home and it may cause serious damage.
