What is a Gutter Brush?
A gutter brush prevents leaves and other debris from entering the gutter by filling up the space that the leaves would typically occupy.
A gutter brush may also be called:
- a Hedgehog Gutter Guard, or
- a Bottle-Brush Gutter Guard.
How does it work?
The brush’s bristles, which look like the spikes of a hedgehog, block larger leaves from entering the gutter. Water and smaller pieces of debris can pass through. However, some smaller leaves can become stuck in the bristles and as a result, the brush will need to be cleaned periodically.
What are the Pros?
- Affordable
- Easy to install
- Can fit almost any gutter
What are the Cons?
- Brushes need to be cleaned
- Requires more maintenance than other gutter guards
- Trapped debris may lead to the growth of mold and mildew
The Last Word: When compared to other forms of gutter protection, a gutter brush offers a low-cost alternative to commercial-grade screens or filters. Although it may minimize the risk of your gutters overflowing, it does not eliminate the threat that leaves and other debris pose to your gutters.
